1) Characteristics Low pressure tubes
Design and function of low pressure tubes:
– Airtight sealed quartz glass tube
– Fluorescent phosphor
– Mercury vapour/ low pressure
– Electrodes on both sides (short or long electrode rack)
– Fluorescent coating converts the radiation generated into the desired UV spectrum
– Spectral range: UV-A, UV-B, visible light, infrared
– Operating temperature approx. 45 C
Besides the phosphorus and electrode technology used to produce a UV lamp, quartz glass also plays a major role. Quartz glass for UV tubes should generally have a high transmission so that the UV light produced inside the lamp is also emitted to the outside. All our New Technology lamps are produced with the so-called open glass. Compared to lamps produced with closed glass, these have a higher efficiency of UV light. The more open and pure the glass – the higher the transmission.
- What is ACTIVE GLASS TECHNOLOGY
The purity of the quartz glass plays an important role. Quartz glass consists partly of molten sand and broken glass. The mixing ratios and the nature of the components are variable. The new ACTIVE GLASS TECHNOLOGY is a particularly pure and therefore very effective quartz glass. This quartz glass is more transmissive than the open glass. Pi K501 DIAMOND high-performance lamps are made of this special quartz glass. The UV performance produced in the Pi K501 DIAMOND lamp is thus emitted much more effectively compared to conventional UV lamps. We can prove this by our measurements with the double monochromator:
UV-A output: Here you can see the higher peak of the PI K501 DIAMOND at approx. 365nm wavelength, in the UV-A range (315-400nm) for instant tanning.
UV-B output: If you zoom in on the UV-B range (280-315nm), you can see three peaks of the PI K501 DIAMOND: at approx. 290nm, 297nm and 303nm. Both the indirect pigmentation for a long-lasting tan and the vitamin D production are in the UV-B range. The post-tanning effect is achieved by the higher output in the indirect pigmentation range. This we have also found out by self-testing during tanning on the Pi K501 DIAMOND.
